PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES

Psychotherapy (also known as "therapy") is a treatment approach developed to assist people in addressing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral difficulties that are contributing to problems in their lives. Psychotherapy can be extremely effective, and for some, even life-altering. It offers people a place that is both safe and challenging, in order to promote some desired change. That said, psychotherapy is not for everyone, and it is not the only - or even the best - method for certain people to confront their challenges. In general, psychotherapy involves face-to-face speaking interaction with a provider who is trained in psychological methods. Psychotherapy is not the same as counseling, peer-support, or life coaching.

My aim is to work with clients collaboratively, to help them set and achieve their goals for therapy. I provide the guidance and structure needed to help clients achieve greater awareness, insight, and skills to better manage their emotions, behavior patterns, and relationships. Symptom relief (what most people are seeking when they first start therapy) is actually a side effect of this process.

I provide psychotherapy for young adults, adults, and seniors with a range of difficulties, including

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Difficult Life Transitions

  • Grief & Loss

  • Trauma/Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Aging

  • Family Issues

  • Relationship Issues

  • Work & Career Issues

  • Psychosis

  • Schizophrenia

My approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral, but I integrate psychodynamic and existential interventions when appropriate. I offer time-limited, evidence-based treatments that I am certified in or formally-trained to administer, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety and Depression, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis, and Social Skills Training for Schizophrenia.

For young adults who have recently become ill with a psychotic disorder, I offer psychotherapeutic intervention and education designed to aid in the adjustment to diagnosis and life in the community. I also work with clients of all ages in accomplishing goals such as return to school and work, medication adherence, and symptom management. All treatment offered to clients with psychotic illness is adjunctive, or in addition to, their primary care. This usually involves medication management by a psychiatrist. I will work as a member of the client's treatment team to provide them the best possible care.

My practice reflects my training and background. I am sensitive to and appreciative of the diversity of the human experience and uniqueness of the individual. Incorporating a holistice perspective, I collaborate with my clients to tailor a treatment plan to meet their individual needs. I emphasize a goal-oriented approach, which allows us to measure success as we go, as I help my clients achieve their goals for therapy. Thus, my therapy model is generally time-limited, though I accept longer-term psychotherapy patients on a limited basis. My practice is LGBTQ+ friendly.
